Health Fair 11 offers healthy options at the fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- The Health Fair 11 building is open and ready for screenings at the Great Minnesota Get Together. On it's first day alone, over 8,000 free and reduced-cost screenings were given.

So what's new this year? The folks with Welcyon are offering visceral fat screenings. Visceral fat is the most dangerous kind of fat, the kind that surrounds your internal organs.

Caring Bridge is also new to the building this year. Share a message of inspiration for everyone to see or learn more about Caring Bridge under the pergola in a relaxation garden created by Linder's Garden Center.

Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency has returned with flu shots. Get your family vaccinated before the school year begins.

Zero, the Project to End Prostate Cancer is parked just outside Health Fair 11. Men who stop by can get a free PSA test or a prostate exam to check for cancer.

North Memorial is offering blood glucose screenings. And the big scale is back. Last year, more than 3 million pounds of fairgoers were weighed.

Germ City from the Minnesota Departments of Health and Food Safety is back. It offers a great lesson in handwashing to kids and adults alike.

UCare is working with ClearCorps to offer free lead screenings on weekends to pregnant women and children age six and under.

The Red Cross is giving free blood pressure screenings.

The Minnesota Optometric Association is giving you a chance to look at your retina.

You can look at the inside of your eardrum with the Minnesota Academy of Audiology or get a hearing exam.

Health Strategies is back with bone density and body fat screenings.

The Anaphylaxis and Food Allergy Association has brought in Mad Science to entertain fairgoers with some non-food science experiment fun.

Northland Celiac Group is offering a list of gluten-free foods at the fair.

And the Minnesota Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association will be talking to fairgoers about back pain.

Health Fair 11 is located on the corner of Dan Patch and Cooper Streets at the state fair. It's open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
